RAMONA, Calif. – Authorities say a pair of California pilots from the Army National Guard had only minor injuries after a helicopter crash-landed during training at the end of a runway in rural San Diego County.
State fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser says the helicopter came down on its side at Ramona Airport on Tuesday night.
The National Guard said in a statement that the forced landing during a routine training mission caused significant damage to the UH_60 Black Hawk helicopter.
The pilot and co-pilot got out on their own and were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to a hospital. Their injuries were not serious.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
