In a statement released on Monday (3 September), Alibaba introduced its first post-graduate scholarship programme in Singapore, partnering with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Economic Development Board (EDB).
Called the Alibaba Talent Programme, applications are now open and will close 31 October 2018.
Its first intake will commence in January 2019 and they expect 20 to 30 students to be admitted.
The programme is open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents who have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical and electronic engineering, physics, or other related subjects.
Candidates should be pursuing a PhD in areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things to be considered.
If selected, scholars will be getting a monthly salary of S$5,000 and a mentorship by supervisors from their enrolled university and Alibaba, on top of having their PhD studies paid for.
This four-year programme aims to groom R&D talents from Singapore, particularly in the field of computer science and gives participants a chance to spend their time in some of Alibaba’s research facilities located in China and Singapore.
Students will take part in research projects led by Alibaba and universities and will have access to large data samples and valuable business scenarios from Alibaba.
Outstanding students could get hired by Alibaba.
