ByteDance Is Planning To Make A Smartphone? Could Come With Apps Like TikTok, Toutiao

Chinese internet tech company ByteDance is best known for developing apps, some of which, like news aggregator platform Toutiao, are widely used in China.

But the firm is most famed for its video app TikTok, that has grown massively popular across the globe and frequently tops worldwide app rankings.

According to Financial Times, which cites two unnamed sources, ByteDance could soon be taking on hardware too, with plans to develop their own smartphone.

Not much is known about ByteDance’s possible smartphone yet, except that it would come preloaded with the company’s collection of apps.

This would include Toutiao, TikTok, and an upcoming music streaming app set to rival the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.

Financial Times reports that ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming “has long dreamt of a phone with Bytedance apps pre-installed”.

TechCrunch also reports there have been earlier hints of ByteDance’s interest in making their own smartphones, when the company acquired some patents and employees from phone maker Smartisan in January.
